Discussions Highlight Need for Regional Collaboration

Mesa Post Town Hall Program

Arizonans around the state are discussing the recommendations from the fall 2007 Town Hall on Land Use.  Communities as diverse as Douglas, Yuma, Phoenix, Payson, Tucson and Flagstaff all agree that we need to have more regional collaboration. To review the complete statements from these participant discussions, click here.

Copies of the final report, "Land Use: Challenges and Choices for the 21st Century", as well as a summary publication that highlights key facts and recommendations, will be mailed to all Town Hall members next week.  To download electronic versions of these publications or to view additional programs scheduled on the 91st Town Hall, visit www.aztownhall.org.

Establishing a Vision for Growth and a Broad-Based, Diverse Citizen Organization

azoneParticipants at the 91st Town Hall called for a statewide visioning process to address the state's growth. One effort underway to help realize this goal is AZ One,a one-day exercise that will bring together more than 300 diverse stakeholders to discuss, analyze and develop alternative growth scenarios for the rapidly growing region in central Arizona. To learn more about this effort, visit www.azonefuture.com.

Town Hall participants also recommended the establishment of a broad-based, diverse citizen organization to provide a sustained presence in support of effective growth management. The goal of the organization would be to contribute technical expertise, educate the public, and encourage citizen involvement in land use issues.  Two Town Hall members--Associate Director of the Global Institute of Sustainability at Arizona State University, Jim Holway; and President & C.E.O. of The Phoenix Zoo and The Arizona Zoological Society, Jeff Williamson--are in the early stages of creating such a group.

If you are interested in being a part of these efforts, contact Jim at james.holway@asu.edu or Jeff at jwilliamson@thephxzoo.com.

Results of Branding Process Unveiled

acalogoA new logo and a complete reworking of the annual brochure are just two of the many changes ArizonaTown Hall members will see as part of a nine month long "branding" process.

The Town Hall's Marketing and Communications Committee oversaw the process with the help of a public relations firm, R & R Partners. R & R Partners' Phoenix office generously donated its services, which included not only the development of a new logo and communication materials for Arizona Town Hall, but ongoing advice on how best to communicate the Town Hall's unique role in Arizona and the value of Town Hall recommendations.
